      Phosphate in water

I have been having problems with cyano bacteria. My phosphates are .5 and I am having problems getting rid of them. I use DI water from AW and I have asked them several times about their water quality. They continue to say it is DI water nothing is in it. I did a phosphate test on it tonight and it appears to have >.5 reading of phosphate. I will confirm this in the morning.

Has anyone else checked their AW water for phosphates???

Try water from "Vinh Hao". It's across the street from Kearny Mesa High School. It's drinking water and it's so clean! Prepaid ($0.14/gallon)

hey I just got this book from OG written by Julian Sprung "ALGAE a problem solver guide"
      17$ and worth every penny.
in it it says that a lot of active carbon leaches phosphates in to the water. Let me see Its page 13...it says you can test the carbon for phosphates by letting a few granules sink to the bottom of a test tube of distilled water then put the phosphate reagent from a commercially available phosphate test kit , Blue confirms the presents of phosphates

      go check out this book...
there are alot of other sources of phosphates you'd never think to check.

yah stay away from crappy carbon. I used the bag that came with an aquaclear filter once. ONCE. algae everywhere within a few days.

However, cyano and phosphates can be from a number of sources, including cheap carbon and exhausted DI resins. Usually it is from new tanks breaking in and/or over feeding. Good flow helps to get rid of cyano but the Chemi-Clean stuff works wonders.

I used the chemi clean about 1-2 weeks ago. It helped get rid of a lot but it has come back. I don't know if it is too soon to dose again.

      Hey Sackwack,

Have you tested your water from AW for phosphate? I would be curious to see what your test shows!!!!!
