      8 gallon JBJ nano overheating

So I wonder if anyone else has had this issue? I have my nano setup for seahorses, and would like the temps to stay under 74*. The ambient room temps do not exceed that, and I have the 50w heater set to 72.. yet here I am am with a tank at 76-78*.. the lights are an led flipper and no extra pumps.. so I am stumped! I suppose the 2 stock pumps could be the issue.. but I don't know of any that may be designed to be low heat.. any thoughts? I do TRY to keep the glass lid open halfway.. when my crazy asian leopard cat isn't "on the hunt":/ Thanks for any input guys!

If you're using the stock pump you can replace them with with some Maxi-jets. They run a lot cooler.

Maybe your heater is off in calibration. Try lowering it down below 72.

Thanks.. I did that, and it didn't help I even swapped out the heater to make sure.. No go. I am gonna spaz if I need to drop 2 bills on a nano chiller It would be ok for a fish system, but 78 is WAY to high for seahorses.. I wonder if a small computer type fan would help any?

Try a clip on fan or something similar before you swap anything else out, maybe the lights or the pumps are keeping your tank temp elevated above what the heater is set at. It wouldn't take much to raise the temp in an 8 gallon tank.

Also a big fan pointed at it might help too.

Thanks.. well, have added a small 4 inch clip on type fan. Works well to bring down the temp..just an eyesore may try to find a small black box fan ( computer type) that is wired for an outlet and mount it behind the light arm. Having trouble finding one though. Good for now.. have it set on the lights timer.. and is staying around 73-74 so far.

I've had the same issue and frozen water bottles and the fan saved my tanks several years ago.
