The general concensus I found is they don't work when tossing them in by themselves. They are only effective when they are working in groups. Otherwise they just hide and don't come out.

I had them in my sump. Gone within the day with peppermints. I threw them in there and within 2 minutes they were doing serious work. Awesome to watch!
