Just regular sand from HD. It’s 4 bucks a bag and I used 2 bags for the mold. Make sure it is moist when you make the mold. Let the rock cure for 24h and then handle with care until fully cured.

Yes, but you have to cure it for about a month until the PH doesn’t go up in the water you cure it in.
I have it in a tub and do daily water changes. I also add a bit of muriatic acid to start with...

I got myself a SCA cube and wanted the rock to look a certain way.

2 part # 2 potland cement (low alcalinity from HD)
3 parts corse crushed coral
2 part fine crushed coral
1 part argonite sand...

Unlikely that this would burn the motor up. If so they would be rewound in a week and a half. I don't know what pumps they are using but if sand got into them, then this shut down could be going on...

Old trick that works well:
Drill a hole in the top of the overflow tube. Buy a power head for your tank (maxi jet or something like it). Glue the air suction hose into the top of the overflow tube....
