I'm using the Hamilton 14K on my single bulb and I do like it. The blue color seems to wash out a little to early though IMO to more whitish light.

Nope don't need silicone for the foam at all. It's merely used to hold your stuff down!
As far as the epoxy is concerned, hobby shop works well. Get something that is relatively slow setting. ...
The silicon was to keep the wall from floating up. The foam is EXTREMELY buoyant. Put a few beads on the back glass to adhere to the eggcrate. It's not necessary per se, but if you have problems...
If you didn't rinse well enough you would have seen a lot of black soot in the water for a short time coming from your carbon source.
If that's the case, take the carbon source out, and do another...
