Scripps SPS recipe
With the worsening drought I’m considering a switch to Scripps for my water changes. I have a SPS heavy mixed reef and am wondering if there are any established successful routines out there for prepping the water for that type of tank? I’m banking on the dkh/ca/mg needing a bump but what other methods or filtration should also be done? Anyone using a diatom filter on Scripps with success?

I used Scripps for years and had good success with a mixed reef a pretty heavy sps load. When I used it I had to add ro/di water to lower the salinity and dose alk, mag, and cal to match my reef.

I used to use it for years. Got tired of hauling water, transferring and storing. I honestly had a better reef now that I think about it, but I was doing large weekly water changes.
During the rainy season it kinda sucks. Same with when they are doing maintence and it's off.
I did the same as above, dosed it up to the levels I preferred.
Weird stuff would come out the hose right before I stopped using it, felt like it may have contributed to a few cyano outbreaks. A sediment filter was used on one of my brute cans, pump outta one and into the other.
It'll save water for sure!

Appreciate the info and it’s comforting to know it works for sps with some adjusting. I’ll probably run it thru a sediment filter at minimum… would be a good excuse to use a pool filter which I’ve always wanted to try :) I finally have things coloring up and hate to go backwards but wow are the reservoir levels alarming.

I run in through a filter sock when I pick it up and again when I use it.

I used to use it when I lived in UTC. I’d mix it 1:1 with reef crystals SW and call it good. Figured the alk would be more balanced. Not very quantitative, but it kept the lps and zoas I had at time happy

I have been using it for years. I add 7ml alk, 30ml Ca, and 30ml mag per 5 gallons. I use BRS products. I have never filtered it or worried about the rainy season. Best to test the water before and after to come up with your own figures based on the additives you use. This is a current pic of my tank.
