I'm having red cyano bacteria, came out of no where.
been looking for ways to beat it and get rid of it but can't find a clear answer. For now i did chemiclean.
Any advice of how to get rid of it? I know improving flow, but anything else?

Cal: 400
Mag: 1350

Nitrate: 05
Every time I got cyano bad I feed less, used carbon/gfo, manual removal of cyano then chemi clean treatment with lights off for two days or so then water change.
Been running carbon and gfo the whole time.. I’ll try the feeding less. As for now I scraped off what I could and used some chemiclean
Are you using scripts water?
Yeah I was.. but started mixing last water change
I had a massive outbreak... i mean MASSIVE... like in the rock scape and the walls... killed some of my corals... did chemiclean for 3 days instead of 2 and booom gone...

I'm going through this right now. Gonna do chemiclean and I've read that reducing lights by an hour makes a big difference for some folks. Increasing flow never makes a difference for me.

I know everyone is going to tell you to address the underlying cause...and they are right...but I struggled for about 6 weeks until I did chemiclean and it was gone for good. I also did water changes and did feed less. Plus, I was carbon dosing (vodka) and I stopped that. But, + 1 for chemiclean and addressing underlying cause.

Thanks! Started the chemiclean and hopefully I’ll get better after that. As for finding the root cause, that was the reason for my post :). Don’t want it to keep coming back. I usually run a carbon/gfo reactor almost 24/7. Should I stop that, keep it, or just run it for a certain amount of time?
When I’ve dealt with red cyano it had to do with low flow. Technically, food collecting in a low flow area. The red cyano is outcompeting the algae (good & bad) on the nutrient consumption. Look for/fix low flow spots where it’s concentrated or where it originated. The chemiclean should give you a good reset, it may not get rid of all but hopefully something else [good] will start to outcompete it.
First time using this stuff, what a difference! Big change happened around 18 hour mark.
