My 5 year old female clown fish managed to jump through the egg crate lid and land on the floor while I was traveling. The male looks lonely :*-(. Would be it better to try to find a fish I suspect is female or just buy a small one and hope they figure it out? In almost 20 years of reef keeping, I've never lost a clownfish, pretty bummed it was this beauty.

Male is probably 1.5". The female was around 3".

I lost my female and bought a small male, they paired up right away. They were about the same size as your pair. New male was about 1"
Bummer to hear.
Usually safest bet is buy a new small male, as small as you can get, less than an inch and a quarter to assure still male, but if you do find an acceptable female soon before your existing male transitions that can work too.
It could be either perc or ocellaris, though I do prefer to keep same species, those two will mix though.
