Did your student submit a science project?
The Greater San Diego Science & Engineering Fair of 2018 is just around the corner. I am reviewing projects that will be judged (for awards), and was wondering if anyone on here has a student who is submitting a project this year?
(This could be the best part of my job, reading fair abstracts.)
For your enjoyment, here is an abstract from a project titled:
'The Effect of Voltage of(sic) Planarian Neoblasts'
"
The purpose of this experiment is to determine the effect voltage on planarian neoblast replication. In an innovative world still ridden with disease and health problems, stem cells may be our solution. The question is, is there a voltage that positively impacts neoblast regeneration and if so, could there be a correlation to human stem cell replication as well. All aspects, from the number, type, and age of planarians to the environmental conditions (the chambers, water, temperature) to the timing and methods of feeding and massing, were standardized in an effort to maintain quality consistency. The one manipulated (independent) variable was the amount of voltage applied to the planarian's water. The responding (dependent) variable was the change in planarian mass (grams) per chamber each week. Based on my research done, it has been proven that 3 Volts had the best effect on the planarian and yielded the most growth within planarian stem cells. All voltages tested (1.5 volts, 3.0 volts, 4.5 volts) increased planarian regeneration, thus proving that voltage does have an effect on neoblast regeneration.
