Hey guys. I've been thinking about 3D printing a sump, but since I don't have a huge industrial printer, I can only print one or two sides/baffles at a time. How well would silicone hold all the sides together? I will most likely also add bracing. Dimension will most likely be close to a standard 29g but a bit shorter and wider.

Id be more scared about flex of the plastic. Also make sure you dont use PLA as it breaks down in salt water.

I say why risk it? The amount you spend on the plastic rolls almost equals to the same as if you buy a good quality used sump. It may work for the first few months but what happens down the road when it starts to weaken, you won’t know till it happens and by then it’s to late and you have water all over the floor.
Safe bet is to use it for baffle making and insert it into a glass tank. Test that out first and let it run for a year or two and see how sturdy it becomes after.
Most sump are around $200 for the size I want, if not over. The filaments for 3D printing comes at $15-$20 per roll. And I'm most likely going to use around 5 rolls for that project, which comes around $100, which is half of what I would have to pay for an acrylic sump. As for used sumps, they are either way too far for me to pick up or someone else already grabbed themQuote:

My opinion would be just getting a 29 gallon tank from Petco when they do the dollar a gallon sale and 3D printing the baffles if you wanna go that route. I just bought a sump kit off eBay for my 10 gallon sump. All in all I maybe spent 40-50 bucks for the tank kit and silicone.

Better idea and forget about the sales from Percocet, look up on offerup or Craigslist, you can find some nicer deals on there for tanks and the positive thing is that you could even negotiate on the price. You can find tanks that are good to new conditions for less then what petco has them for sale sometimes. Be patient and look for some great deals. I say it’s well worth the time and patience.
Water damage is way worst if you risk it over plastics heated on top of plastics if you ask me. Take that $100 and put it to better use and will be more secure then a fully printed sump. Also with 3D printing there is a HIGH chance there will be gaps when going that route.
