  1. Chan, although my mom was sick for a while (Liver cirrhosis, non-alcoholic) loosing her has not been easy. But one must except and life goes on.

My ALK is around 8 and CA around 450-500. I don't always dose or test Magnesium levels, but I have always gotten good results when I do that. I think for SPS, T5s lights are the best, but the bulb replacement cost is annoying. I had a cheaper Chinese LED fixture over my frag tank. Everything was fine but the fixture only lasted a year. So I might have to bite the bullet and purchase a more expensive Kessil for the frag tank.

Light is no doubt the most expensive part of this hobby, my Vertex LEDs over the display tank was over $2200. But I had to do it. AI and Radion are cool lights with lots of bells and whistles, but I like Kessil, they are simple to operate, and more effective as they are single chip LED for more even distribution of light(no disco effect). Also Kessil is a solid company and manufacture their own LEDs.

    Hello pk,

It's good to see you coming back to this Forum. Really sorry hearing the passing of your mother! I know how that feels as I am dealing and caring with the fading away of my parents' well-being as well.

I have seen your tank with good Stony Corals growth but my 3 years old system is still struggle with stony corals. Just double checking on your successes... What are your optimal calcium and AK levels, and what lighting systems are you using currently using again? And what do you think of those High prices LEDs like the AI, Radion etc...

  3. My Flakes list goes here. Please feel free to post yours.

Once you have my address and setup a time to pickup and don't show up without explanation, you land on my flake list.

still want the royal gramma? should be ready tuesday or wednesday.
  5. I would go with 10-12 times turnover. Make sure your overflow can handle the flowrate. On my 50g I had quiet one 4000hh(3 ft high), it was bit on the low side. On my 160g, I have 2600gph reeflow dart, bit on the high side.

Check out the some of the calculators on ReefCentral website:

Hi PK. I'm putting together an 80. What is the rule of thumb with return pump GPH? My run is 4-5 ft split into 2.
