After years of battling all sorts of undesirables in the tank (gha, aptasia, red turf algae, mojano, high phospates, etc.) corals are getting healthy and starting to grow and color up. Still have some ways to go but they are nice to look at now.
How come their coloration are a lot better from the top than from the front?

Nice
Try putting the camera directly under the light so you won't get the reflection in the pic

You got some nice looking colonies there. Glad to hear the tank is on the up and up. Is that a ASD rainbow milli? Also, what is the blueish/purple colony in the fourth picture?

Yes, that is an ASD rainbow mille. The other one is an ORA Purple Bonsai also from ASD.

Nice! What was the battleplan for the algae issues? I seem to be fighting an endless battle myself. Luckily it's not completely overtaking the tank, but I'd like to know what you did so I can have a nice tank like yours.

It was really a whole lot of trial and error. Couple of years ago, even with undetectable NO3 and PO4, gha was all over the sand, rocks, and the back wall. They even grew in the dark areas of the tank so light deprivation did not work. No critters would eat it. I read in another site about hobbyists having success with Algaefix Marine. I tried it and it seemed to worked for me. My tank was gha-free for the first time.
Lately, found that the tank is not really totally gha-free. They would occasionally reoccur when I neglect tank housekeeping, but not as bad as before. Only small patches on the sand. Also found that Algaefix does not have any effect on them anymore. I do the following to keep them under control:
- 10% WC at least every other week, every week is better.
- Keep NO3 to undetectable levels with vodka dosing and MB7
- Keep PO4 to undetectable levels with GFO
- Keep Magnesium level above 1400
