Achilles Reef Kinda Cube

Ok so got a 75g semi cube last night from nanoreef1. Tank is going to be for high end coral (sps, zoas, chalice), Achilles (till he's too big) tang, with custom back rock wall. Tank is 36" x 24" x 20". Internal center overflow.


Today did a structure test for tank and stand

Will be re-staining and refinishing stand, possibly re-painting black, haven't decide but I will at Home Depot today.

Yes I had heard thru the grapevine Ron had owned it. Think he may have had it set up when I stopped by to pick up some fish a couple years ago or so.... I'm very excited about it, wanted a tank with more depth, so this is good.... More pics coming after paint job. Rain almost got me today, thought I'd be painting in the sun.

A Little rough sketch of aquascaping plans... Achilles tangs are known for the orange teardrop, so I want to incorporate that shape into the aquascape. I also want to leave as much area for swimming open as possible, that's why I want the rock wall for the corals. I also want to add a waterfall above the overflow, and make it hopefully look like its coming out from the rocks/foam wall.

Rock wall finally finished!!! Success! Black sand en route, should be here in a couple days. Plumbing sitting in vinegar bath. Skimmer sitting in car and pump and heater in cabinet. Think I'm just about to fill it. I'm also thinking of plumbing it into my anemone reef that has my blueface angel, purple tang, and Aussie harlequin tusk, does anyone think that this will be a problem? I.e. possible cycle could kill my expensive fish? Thoughts?

I don't want to rain on your parade or anything Brett, especially cuz you're in to MMA but, an Achilles Tang of any size is going to be too big for a 75g cube. They need longer tanks for lots of swimming space.

So Jeff aside from the broncos being the best team ever, do you think I'm gonna end up disappointed if I plumb this tank into my already established tank? About equal volumes of water so it'll be basically doubling the water volume. It'll let me get some ugly plumbing out of eyesight. But I don't wanna lose my fish in my established tank.

Brett,
The only downside of plumbing multiple systems together is that whatever goes on in one tank, goes on in all the tanks. With an Achilles Tang, I would personally prefer to keep that tank isolated from the others. GO CHARGERS!!!

Great success!!!! Silicone in the rock wall and refilled the tank. Cycle in progress. Fish coming soon, then my sps. I'm a happy camper. Already planning the stocking and I'm thinking Achilles tang, phantom clown, da Vinci extreme grade, da Vinci A grade, and a nearly naked clown, a barbonias anthias. And then I'll need to make a decision on wrasses between lineatus, kuteri, or Cook Islands Scott's Fairy wrasse. Decisions, decisions. Pics of the full tank to ponder on.

Cool, what kind of light are you going to USE, I am running Kessils on my 185, I saw the Led Pendent are you planning to run another type of light. I like your rock set up. thats pretty sweet man.

It's a 120w dimmable full spectrum LED. I'm going to start with that and see how things go. But will add T5's if I need more light.... And thank you. If you ever want a rock wall I'm more than happy to help. I will be adding them in one way or another to all my tanks now.

Got a Hawaiian cleaner wrasse for my Hawaiian tank!!! So sweet!!! Hid last night after acclimation but came out today and is already cleaning my Hawaiian anthias'. Now hopefully he'll eat :)
