Has anyone been here lately? I just found out about them and that they are literally like two minutes away from my work. Maybe five, six miles from my house. I'm really excited to have an LFS that's so close, does anyone know what they're like?

They have been around for a billion years (give or take a few years). They sometimes have issues with how good their fish look, in my honest opinion. Pricing on some of the dry goods has been pretty good. I think it is a decent shop but to be honest I do not buy much there and I live 1 mile away.

I used to live over near 54th and university. Fountains was my lfs for about 5 years way back in late 90's.
I haven't really been there lately, I know there is one guy there that seems to know a lot about cichlids. I bought my cichlids there back in the 90's.
Never been there for reef or marine fish.

I used to buy wholesale from Judy the owner back when I managed at Clairemont Tropical Fish. Back in those days it was the Local Fish Store of local fish stores. I haven't been there in over ten years though. I guess I'll have to venture out there.

I have been going to Fountains since the early 90's, it's actually where I got my first tank... I recently visited Fountains last year since I moved to NP for a year or so. I found the staff to be accommodating and helpful, but again.. I like to chat with people where ever I venture to. Fountains has built their reputation over the years and it is still one of my favorite LFS..

I used to work there 13 years ago. Great for getting basic glass tanks. I don't buy anything else there, especially fish.

Fountains... pronounced FonTanes, has been around for a LOOOONG time.

They used to sell out of a "house" that was their storefront, before moving to the stone building you see today.
... it was the epic of all places, with bubble walls and pillars and a GREAT saltwater section. As of the past 10yrs, it's not what it used to be. :(

Just saw this post had to comment. My mom got a goldfish there when she was a kid. I am 40..that place has been around for ever. My mom was a kid in the 50's. I havent been there since the 90's. I remember they used to run really bad homemade commercials on local TV. Clairemont Tropical fish, Fountains, Fish Haven and Encinitas Tropical fish were where I spent my money back in the day. It is unfortunate that the reveiws of this place are not that good. Hopefully they turn it around. There is something to be said about being in this business as long as they have.

They are located 5 mins from my house. They have great prices on standard Visio tanks.

i was just in a few weeks ago and things looked heinous! fish lying about on the bottom of their display tanks, detri all over, and the glass hadn't been cleaned in quite sometime. Very disappointing.
