Hey what's up everyone? My name is Michael and I'm a freshwater convert that's new to the whole saltwater game and I'm here to learn everything that I can so that I can have a successful and vibrant reef tank. My tank has been set up for about 3 months and it's a lot of trial and error learning at this point but it's fun. I tend to get scolded by my best friend whose a more experienced saltwater enthusiast for my lack of patience and desire to expedite the process and by nature that's difficult to cut off but I'm working on it! :ballchain:

I have a small 29g Starter tank that has 2 Lion Fish, 2 Damsels, a Mandarin Goby, and a Emerald crab in it. I have a few pieces of coral that was given to me by a fellow member that's slightly pinkish now so I'll have to research my water parameters so make sure that everything is on the level (any assistance would be welcomed). Also I have some green polyps, a zalia, and some other type of mushroom. As for lighting I ungraded from a T5 to a 120w LED Blue/White light yesterday courtesy of another member. Well I guess that's all for now, and like I mentioned previously any assistance with water parameters, lighting tips, and overall help would be surely welcomed. Thanks!

I got the canopy setup from N2Reefs. Lol yeah Ed I am learning as much as I can. I do have a question though for everyone, I have this thick reddish brown algae that had started going crazy in my tank. Any suggestions? Products? Here were my levels the last time I checked them.
CA 500
Mg 1520
KH 3.3L 9.2dkh

Welcome to the boards Mike!

Sounds like you may have a cyano outbreak. This could be caused by a few things like high nitrates or phosphates or low flow.

What power head are you using? Is the algae growing in an area that has low flow?

Thanks Dave! My powerhead is pretty good. I got it from my best friend but I'd say that its in the 200+ gph range. My rocks are separated and you can see the flow of water between them pretty good. I'd have to say that my nitrites and phosphates are probably high. I got a sea hare to help take care of the algae but I think it's in over it's head with this much algae. It has grown crazy over the last like 2 weeks. The algae is growing EVERYWHERE!

You can either let it run its course or run phosphate remover.
