After a six month hiatus from the hobby I got the itch again and decided to set back up my 80 gallon tank. I previously dried out all of my rock due to nuisance algae and then recured it in a trash can while I was taking a break. When I took the break I only sold my livestock but kept all my equipment in storage. It has been set up for a few months now and things are beginning to settle in. It is a long way from done but it is a start.

Tank Basics:
- 80 Gallon Visio drilled with 1500GPH glass holes overflow.
- 30 Gallon sump DIY made with acrylic baffles
- 10 Gallon Top off tank behind the sump
- Stand and hood custom built by myself and my friend.
- Lighting: Grosite 8 bulb T5 fixture custom wired with ATI bulbs. Two Blue LED moonlight strips for night time viewing
- Flow: 1 Vortech MP10es set to reefcrest mode and two Koralia Evolution 750's
- Return: Quietone 4000
- Skimmer: Reef Octopus
- Controller: Reef Keeper Elite
- BRS 2 part dosers for Cal and Alk
- BRS GFO and Carbon dual Reactor
- Current USA 1/15th HP Chiller (currently not in use)
- About 80-90 pounds of live rock. Seeded my old rock with some cured rock to help get things going.

Lets get some pics of the canopy, stand, and sump area. What is custom wired with the growsite? Seems like everything is doing/looking good so far. Smart of you to keep the equipment knowing you'll get back on the wagon again.

I'll try and get some pics of the canopy and stand soon. Here is a pic of the sump. Its not the cleanest right now, but its working. In regards to the wired grosite, it came running all eight bulbs on one plug. I pulled the fixture apart and ended up splitting the two ballasts up into two and adding a second power source. I now have the ability to run half the lights at a time. I use it for a sunrise/sunset effect. I went with the fixture at the time because of the price, but wasn't happy only having one option. Now that I have it split up, I am much happier with the fixture. I think its the best bang for your buck out there for a 48" fixture.

Nice man, glad to see you back up and running!
Yeah I'd like to see the cab/hood better too.
Looks like you are off to a good start.
Gotta be nice to have Shipwreck cove right down the street!

Thanks Dave! Yeah I am stoked to be back in the game. I'll work on getting some pics this evening. The stand and canopy are far from your quality of work, but for a 1st try I think we did alright. Its basic, but it works.

Having Shipwreck around the corner is a blessing and a curse all in one! :) It is way to easy to wander down there! Trent and Dan are cool guys though and I've been able to pickup some quality stuff from them. I got my massive clam, digi, milli, poci, and a few fish from them. Its cool having them around the corner especially when my reefer itch needs a scratch!

Here are a few pics of the stand and canopy that my friend and I built. It was our first attempt at building anything like it. Overall I am happy with the quality for a first try, but it is far from furniture grade quality. Learned some good lessons along the way so next one will be better thought out and have higher quality finish work. Biggest lesson - mix up stain thoroughly prior to application. We used dark stain and didn't shake it up when we first started so the stand is a dark brown and then we shook up the stain and did the hood which turned out to be almost black. Overall it looks fine and is nearly impossible to tell in the room we have it. The tank itself puts out so much light that it is very hard to notice. It almost looks like we meant to fade from dark to light (but not quite). Also excuse the hardwood floors. They are original to the house which was built in 1927. They are long overdue for an overhaul, but makes spilling water a lot less stressful :)

Looks cool to me!
Whenever I get stain, paint, or clear coat I always ask the paint peeps to throw it on the shaker for a few minutes, saves a lot of stirring.
Still looks cool as is, and as far as next one being better, that continues forever!

Thanks Dave! Yeah I'm happy with it and nobody ever notices (except for me of course) - everyones looking in the tank anyways! Yeah now that I have a feel for what we are doing, I can plan the next one out better. It was a fun project especially once we thew a few beers into the mix!
