Awesome V and it's about time! :) Wow, pics of Pete without a beard, didn't even recognize him. Welcome to the 120g club...funny thing is you'll be fully stocked before mine is and it's been running for 3 years now.

About time you posted some pics sucka. Looks great Vince and you can even let it cycle and still have the 90 running, kinda like someone we know did awhile back :D. Just be carefull or you could have a sps melt down like I did and we both don't want that to happen to you. Oh, when you are ready to fill her up LMK, I can fit 80g of scripps in the yukon and have the jugs for it also, all you need to do is feed me and possibly the family :D.

Build looks great so far Vince. Awesome job. I was going to email you about the PSK-2500 pumps. I saw them at Marine Depot and ordered them but how did you get the bottom off? I tried screwing it off and it won't budge. Also mine didn't come with a hole on the side for the hoses for the noise...

Ok everything is in--not scaped or nothing but will be draining the 90 tomorrow. Picked up a convict from A.W.--thanks Mark. Got all the rock out last night and put it in the container in the garage with a pump. This morning was transferring the fish to the 120 and realized I was missing my midas blenny. Sure enough he spent the night in the dark in the garage, but is swimming around happy!!

What material (screen) did YOU use? Looks like it's really thin, and doesn't (or wouldn't) show the screen in reflection.

I use acrylic lids, and good thing I do!! Every now and again I'll hear a fish knock the lid(s)... what a headache!
... I'd be a little more worried of gills getting caught in the screen material, but... I'm thinking of switching to screen to keep my tanks cooler and the chiller running less.

Sure just a standard widow screen frame kit, comes with the aluminum the rope and plastic corners that slip in the ends of the channel. Get the dims you wand to make the frame, cut with a saws all and assemble. Just laid the netting down and applied the plastic rope with the screen tool. Took all of about ten minuets. Here's the link to the frame kit @H-D, and Dave I have plenty of screen left over..

So couple weeks ago my leopard decided to jump in the drain on the 90. When I tried to get him he drove himself into the bulkhead. I literally had to twist him out of the bulkhead. Spent numerous days in the sand only coming out to eat, looking way better today and has been mobile for the last couple days. One of my favorite fish just thought i would share the experience.

Yes ,sea hare, lower light cycle by two hours, feed pellets one night and shrimp the other, little less on those as well. My lawnmower blenny looks like he has triplets he's so fat. Getting better every day and it's all part of the new tank syndrome.--V

In regards to flow, I would go with mp40's over mp10's any day. I have a 48" long tank and one mp10 and 2 korillas. I have the mp10 cranked all the way up and it is just enough flow. I would love to have 2 mp40's turned down lower. I still am fighting some dead spots.

I like the left side just as it is, but if it were me I would maybe redo the right a little, maybe just change the elevation so they aren't so even, up maybe?
Maybe ledge it out towards center?
Either way, still looks cool, and will look great once all grows out, and I like it better minus the stick thingy!

Ya, but I thought he was gonna get evicted for munching on your duncans?

Only saw him do it once--and he might have been grabbing pellets off the duncans. But have increased feedings to a couple times a day, seems to be working.

Have been messin with flow trying to get it just right ...........

Your tanks looking good Vince...!

The flow issue... I know you've mentioned another MP10. BUT... also, swapping out your flat nozzles on your loclines, for small round nozzles will GREATLY increase your flow from your return. It's a HUGE difference!! I have about 11 of the nozzles in my tank, some of the returns split into 3 from one 1/2" return line, some into 2. What's amazing to me is, the returns with flat nozzles was like a breath of air on your ear (best analogy I can come up with ;)). Putting small round nozzles (that act like flow accelerators) on the ends, allowed me to ADD an extra nozzle here and there and still more then DOUBLE my output from the loclines. Of coarse, I'm using three big return pumps... but, I don't have a single powerhead in my 240... and, I've got all the flow I need. The corals seem happy too!

... just food for thought (before you spend hundreds on an MP10, try a few small round nozzles for $20 :D)

For more flow;

Thanks for the feedback Johnny great idea, With the two opposing mp-10's and the 1600 JBJ's I have no dead spots. No power heads would be ideal of course, corals and fish seem to like the alternating flow. Always a work in progress..V

That crazy that it ate ur chromis.
If there any chance that it was sick and dieing
So when it was doing the crazy dieing dance it floated into the Duncan and he didn't put up a fight to get out?

That happened to one of my old fish...

Vince
01-23-2013, 11:39 AM
That's most likey what happened. But the fish was healty the day before. Who knows for sure but definatley crazy to see in the duncans.

LOL... poor little guy!!

I had 12 chromeees in my 240 for a year. Just recently, I'm down to 4.
I first thought it was because I put a Male Bluejaw in the tank... but, he only chases them every now and again.
I then thought it was my tube nem... as I caught it chewing one down.

Now, I'm not sure what it's been... but, I've only seen 1 as it's being devoured. All other 7 have magically vanished.

ODD ain't it??

O.K. so Bi-color angel needs to go , so set up the bottle trap with anticipation ..... lol Got home today and this is what I found..

http://www.seapicture.com/data/500/medium/pepps.jpg

Three pepermints (which I haven't seen in months) and a handful of snails..hmmmmm Maybe the opening was not big enough. So cut the opening a tad bit bigger and within less than five min. he swam in and now is resting in the sump.. Pheww thought it would be a long drawn out process. Bottle trap kicks but just thought I would share!!

So might want to go buy some lottery tickets tonight. I had two fish out of 24 than I wanted to remove, the Bi-color angel (picks) and the melanarus wrasse (starting to bully). After catching the Bi-color in a short time, cleaned the bottle and threw it back in. Took all of about 2 min. and got the wrasse. Unbeliveable I thought this was going to take weeks of frustration and re-scaping to get them out. Stoked right now (20 on black!) lol.

....... this thing is looking good!! Weird though some green is coming back??......

Not saying it wasn't a specific color when sold, but... I've often seen a coral sold as "Golden" or other 'rare' colors, only for it to go back to it's original colors when happy and provided with nutrients and proper amount of light. Only way I've been able to ever solidify "proper" color, was to see it in pictures 6-12 months prior to purchase. If not longer.

It'll be interesting to see it's color change. Keep the pictures coming!!
