We will see. I think he is just as likely to get hurt as anyone else. Oline did a good job of protecting him last night. Steelers still got a few hits in and manning took them just fine. Huge upgrades for both offense and defense this offseason so we should be ready to take on the division at least. Go broncos!

Ronnie Brown was a joke today. Missed Tolbert big time today. Hopefully Matthews can get back on the field and be productive. Rivers did a great job managing the game and the O-Line stepped it up big time after looking shaky to start the game. The pass defense needs some work though. The biggest concern was the trouble scoring in the red zone again! If we can't turn those field goals in to touch downs we're not going to make the playoffs again.

Very true , we are running into the same ol issues as every year thats what Im concerned about. If we had a rough start with this raiders now imagen ravens ,jets and so on do forth we need to convert on the redzone with td's . As for defense it looked good will see first we need to stay off the injured list !!

1. The Raiders defense is actually decent.
2. This was only the first game, there is still room to improve.
3. The Chargers have a pretty favorable schedule.

Tolbert is pretty good. When I heard he may be interested in the Broncos over the off season I was really excited, especially since you guys got Royal from us. Too bad it didn't work out, I would have loved to see him in the line up in Denver.

Tolbert this and that...The guy is no LT or Walter Payton and he won't do a darn thing on this no run block oline...

Don't get me wrong, Tolbert is a decent player...But IMO, I just don't think Tolbert is that "Spark Plug" for redzone offense...Players like Calvin Johnson or Gronkowski are...

Just remember the last 2 years with Tolbert, did they go to the playoffs with him? Those were the years Tolbert became fan's favorite, btw...

If you are talking about "1 of those drives" in the redzones, Gates should have caught that one off his hands eventhough it was abit high...And, another of "the drives" was on Rivers overthrew M80 a little.

If you miss his dances in the endzone, sure, Tolbert will be missed...And what about special team? Someone once argued how "valuable" Tolbert was with special team...Looks like he won't be missed there.

Tolbert is best catching balls in backfield? You kidding me? Granted Ryan Glassthews is recovering and didn't play yesterday, but he is just as good as Tolbert on that.

And Tolbert with blocking? Rivers didn't get harassed as bad as predicted so Tolbert wasn't needed. If you have to use a running back to pass block all the time, there is going to be problems regardless...

What this team miss on run offense is a Chris Dielman and a proven left tackle...A mauler who can make holes for a running back even when the defense know it is coming and one who can keep Rivers upright...Now tell me if I am "kinda nuts" on this one...

Yeah I have to admit that sucked pretty bad. But you also have to give it to the broncos for keeping it close despite the +4 turnover ratio. That game should've been a blowout long before half time with all the turnovers in the first quarter. Broncos won without that quarter, too bad they all count. Houston is next for us at home and October 15 is coming quickly.

Haha, or Tim Tebow ;) (couldn't help myself) I thought they might win it too but I didnt get my hopes up too much. The falcons didn't capitalize on the turnovers the way they could've. The denver d did a good job of cleaning up mannings and the offenses mess despite constant poor field position and being out there for a lot of the game. If atlanta had even one turnover that could have been enough for the broncos to win. That is the only place the denver d fell short.

That didn't even bother me. A lot of players do that. Brain Dawkins was an avid christion on the team before tebow came around. I think the media and a good majority of his crazy super fans took it to a new level. The whole thing got overblown. He was a leader on the team even if though he wasn't a great qb.

Tebow never did it after every play either. He did it mostly after touchdowns and other big plays. It really wasnt a big deal. It didn't result in a delay of game and on the field the game went on. the media just way overblew it and his crazy fans didn't help. I saw multiple times in mulitple different games on sunday players neel and say a prayer or point up. Nobody ever gets on them even if they do it after every touchdown. That is their touchdown dance. You can't tell me that is more obnoxious than chad johnson dancing with props like a lunatic in the endzone.

Rivers needs 4 seconds period as a pocket QB, he had only 3 all night and they suffered. That pass to Mecham could have been a bit farther, stronger if he had the room and time and the game would have been much different. Went all downhill from there.

It's a losing effort by committee...

Top Boss Spanos allowing his young inexperience sons in football operations like scoutings...Buddy Nix, long time assistant to Butler and AJ Smith would have been better getting young talents for these previous years...

Second Boss AJ Smith has too much ego...And he can't do nothing when his scouting personels are his boss's sons...

Norv Turner is simply an offensive coordinator of the past, meaning he had success ONLY on an offense (SB Cowboys) that played like men among boys at the time...Dallas offensive linemen were HUGE, all average 300lbs +gone up against Dlines that were way less weights, hence less effective in the trench...Michael Irvin played against 5'10" corners...I remembered John Madden used to have a mancrush on them and Emmith Smith running through holes that can fit a Hummer.*BOOM*

Philip Rivers...What can I say? Partially because of him and his declining plays with his immobility to create or manufacture winning drives (Ran for TD when wrs are covered or when pocket collapse), the offense get stopped against better defense that resulted in NO Super Bowl or even a threat to go to one. Sure, pass protection is the key, but man, can he just slide out or get out and hold on to the ball? Big Ben done it and so did Tom Brady...And what they also had in common beside better coaching and all? 2 SBs at least...'Nuff said!

Shaun Phillips? Where was he when he played against elite QBs??? Beating up or stat padding sacks against Raiders and Chiefs are nice...But they need him to go after Mannings, Bradys, Ryans...
Jammer, good corner but he ain't Revis or Bailey even in his prime...Poor guy got drafted and the league changed to no jamming receivers at the line and no contact to WRs after 5yards, but he was known in college for being physical and "jamming" receivers to death...
Takeo Spikes...Done...A player been around the league long enough to retire but haven't gone to a playoff...Fit to be a Charger of late...
Gates...Is about to be done...
Mathews...Clearly is not LT, a good back at best...

There are two sides to every story.

I know the Bolts are far from being a complete team, but a win is a win. Anyone remember the NY Giants 2 super bowl seasons? They cannot remotely be compared to the Giants, This is hard for me to say as I despise ALL NY teams. Rivers doesn't come close to performing at the level of Eli nor have they shown the desire to win it all. If they make the playoffs will that be considered a success? I THINK NOT! Understand, I have been a Charger fan since my dad took me to my first game at Balboa stadium against the Dolphins. I love my chargers but all these years of disappointment have taken their toll. Almost all NFL front office guys will state that the bottom line is that pro football is a business! what buisiness exists where if failure is the norm and accepted? The managers, ( AJ & Norv) Would be let go whether or not a replacement is ready to take over. Coaches may have not been fired mid season but the chargers in their great wisdom did let Marty go after a 14-2 season! I think that's all of my raving for today. Always a fan & Always dissapointed!

OK, so a 14-2 season and losing the first game in the playoffs is success? I thought the Chargers were great in the Martyball days. I thought they were great during the Bobby Ross days. I'm not old enough to know the days they played in Balboa. I think Norv takes a lot of the smack because he is the coach which is rightfully so. But he doesn't have the personnel he once had also. Remember he did take the team to an AFC championship game. Much deeper than Marty's 14-2 season or anytime they made the playoffs under Marty. It just doesn't seem logical to fire Norv now when the Chargers still have a chance to put together an exciting season. Of course making the playoffs and losing the first round is meaningless. IF the Chargers end up turning this season to a deep playoff run, what then? My question was simply who replaces the head coach (Norv) at this point in the season? They are far from perfect, but are not under .500 either.

Exactly..Management can't block for 4 seconds (which is what Rivers needs to plant and throw decent) nor can they make those receivers catch balls. Two plays in two games. One Mecham was underthrown to and would have been a TD, next game he dropped a 51 yd pass....Hero to Zero just like dat.

You're right they can't block but what they can do, is draft players who are capable of blocking. They are responsible for who's on the field. They ran off one of the best wide receivers in the league. Vincent Jackson was our number one receiver and AJ's arrogance lead to him leaving. AJ Smith put together this team and it's his fault when we lack the talent to block, catch passes, and defend against top QB's like Drew Brees, Payton Manning, and Matt Ryan.

When it comes to Norv, there's plenty to blame on him. He's not only the head coach, he's our offensive coordinator. Our offense has become so predictable lately that no one is surprised. They run on 1st down, pass on 2nd, and pass on 3rd down over and over again. When thy have 3rd and short, they put out a heavy package and bring in Battle. Its pretty obvious what they're going to do, and of course they run it up the middle each time.

Ultimately this is on AJ and Norv. AJ runs off good players, doesn't draft well and signs free agents that don't fit in to our offense. Norv is no longer an offensive genius when I can guess at home what play is coming next. Hopefully Spanish steps up this off season when we miss they playoffs and fires them both.

The Chargers were still fined $20,000 for failing to comply with the authority of a game official.

"NFL game officials are charged with protecting the integrity and competitive fairness of the games," an NFL statement Wednesday read. "Club staff members, like players and coaches, have a clear obligation to cooperate in this effort and comply with the direction of game officials.

"As a result of the failure of club staff to follow the directive of a game official to immediately surrender the towels when directed to do so, and to attempt to conceal the towels, the Chargers have been fined $20,000."

if they cant win the west then yeah, the season is over as far as success goes. why not fire Norv now & install an interim coach now & use the rest of this & the off season to get a new head coach. Granted, the last two games shouldnt be laid on Norv's doorstep. Extermely poor quarterback play is mostly to blame. Fire Norv & make rivers sit out the first series of the next game. This season is pretty much over & it's time to start planning for the future. Clearly Norv cannot get the job done so I think they should cut him loose now & start the rebuilding process!!!!!!!

I was going to watch the game but oh yeah....they can't find enough people to pay $75+ to watch a team suck balls. Perhaps some day ownership will pull their head out of their arse, make some long overdue personnel changes, and actually put a worthwhile product on the field. Getting a new stadium, which I for one think would be great, is getting less and less likely the longer they keep letting the fans down.

I hope so dude, our defense was pretty good its our offense that cant seem to put it toguether specially with running the damn ball down the middle , it fail twice quit trying should of just sticked to pass plays but even then still dropping passes rivers panics no protection lol why !!!!!

The Chargers simply don't have enough or any playmaker on all if not 1 out of 3 sides of offense, defense, and special team.

They need standout consistent playmaker to close out game(s). Whether it's the QB who can move the chains with accuracy throws while scramble out of pocket, a running back who shake and bake defense (Ahem...4th and 29) for a long yard gain, a P/K returner who can position the offense across midfield, or a sackmaster that can get to the QB and stop a drive cold...

Yup, the Chargers haven't had that last 2 years and not any different now thanks to AJ Smith and his ego for not replenish talents...

I am just gonna cherish any "Win" they have this season and perhaps looking at it as "half full" and not "half empty"....BOLT UP!!!!!

The broncos pass d is much better than their ranking shows. Most everyone has had to give up the run and pass the entire game to keep up. Hence, they will give up more pass yards in a single game. Also, RGIII didn't pass 200 yards until the 4th quarter. Not to mention that the redskins only had a single true drive. 1 TD was the defense and one was working one a very short field. The Broncos D will hold up fine, especially as they continue to get starters back. This was a top 5 defense last year with most of the same personnel who are out there now.
Also, Osweiller is coming along nicely. Most teams with a franchise qb would be sunk without him, including the chargers.

Chargers defense is going to harrass manning and broncos pass defense isn't good so PR will pick apart they're defense and especially with screens and our running games been outstanding lately.... manning always seems to throw atleast one pick when playing the chargers. Lol it will be a good game forsure!
