Recently, I acquired in a transaction with a local reefer a 20 gallon long aquarium that was drilled for drain and return, and had the back painted black. It had a stand with it I needed temporarily for another purpose. Think the original owner of this tank might have been NickSDC, it traded a few hands since then, but seeing this little tank decided to start a project just for the hell of it. So here it is having worked to assemble components for awhile, and had some time the last few days to set it up. Not sure I'm even going to use it, just needed a project, and I think it turned out nice enough I might use it for a frag setup.

20G long, Brian Reefrager built the overflow out of some acrylic pieces I had lying around. Sweet job, we krylon painted it and it looks real nice with black silicone to seal. Put in a maggie muffler and locline return nozzles.

Return pump is a Rio hyperflow 10, and I got a nice eshopps RS-75 10 gallon sump that could fit the stand. Also picked up a cpr back-pak 2r, and did a fishing line mesh mod and venturi mod to an MJ1200 to get it going. Also had to extend the outlet of the skimmer drain since this is HOB in the sump and it was too noisy otherwise

Picked up a 36" tek 4 bulb fixture, built a PVC hanging rack, threw in a koralia and heater, and it was done.

Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet. Got frags from my other two tanks I could put in there, but not sure if I want to cycle it and keep it or unload it since I really just built it for fun. Might come in handy when I do a 75G to 90G upgrade I'm planning in the next few weeks, that's another project on it's own I've had going on for a few months...

That looks close to the set up I got for my frag tank. Can't wait to see stuff go in it

cool tank. I want to set one up once I grow coral enough to need to trim it.
what are you going to do for flow in the tank.

Thanks guys, I'm not sure about flow. Right now, the return pump is 660gph, and I've got a koralia 1 in the display. I actually only set it up to make sure the plumbing's good and see how it sounds. It's pretty quiet with the maggie muffler and the mod to the back pak so you don't hear it draining. Flow choice will depends if this is going to be for zoas/chalice/lps or sps. Thinking about going bare bottom and keeping the rock in the sump. always imagined I'd do a rock/chaeto fuge in the sump, but I'm still not sure I'm keeping this after I do my 75 to 90G upgrade. I've still got an RSM130 that started as a frag tank, and now it's packed with 3 frag racks. And my 75G has two frag racks. And I've got a 40G tank and stand in the garage collecting dust, so I'm going to have to unload some of this equipment...too much going on, but glad I finished this one off whatever it's fate is.

Nice tank setup, are you planning to sell/trade frags eventually? If it all works out I'll give you some business when I get my tank finished. It's hard to find frags for sale in IE these days with so many stores out of business.

I periodically bust out the frags for sale/trade. I'll likely have some accidental frags when I upgrade to the 90, that tank is sps dominant and I've got some pretty big colonies that I'll have to bust out of the 75 to go into the 90...might get rid of some of the rockwork that has encrusted species, but I have some annoying palys on those rocks too so be warned...

No worries, let me know when. I'd be glad to buy some off you when I am up and running again!

Looking great John, good work! I should throw one of my 3 tier frag racks together for that thing, you could keep all kinds of different types of coral in that tank.

That's what I'm thinking too, just not authorized yet to take up the space in the house with this setup...
