Ok here I go on a new reef adventure. I got my feet wet with a 32 gallon tank, now that I caught the reef bug I will be moving on to an 80 gallon Look down peninsula tank. The tank dimensions are 48x24x16. I will also be building a stand for it. The stand will be 27 inches tall so with the tank on top of it the total height will be no more than 51 inches. perfect for looking down. I recruited the help of my friends to build the stand. with our combined experience in carpentry of a total of zero years, Im hoping this stand will come out awsome!

I think shallow tanks is the way to go. It gives you a whole new view to enjoy your reef.

I like the look, but not a fan of it for most fish.

Okay I got the frame done today and placed the tank on top of it. It was a perfect fit. My friend and I hopped on top of the frame and did a stability test. Now on to the next step of this project, gonna work on the light bar. I will be using two 1inch conduit rods and do a 90 degree bend on both of them and strap them together for added strength.

Wow very nice! That sucker is gonna be crazy sturdy with those 4x4's you used. What are you going to skin it with?

I have no idea! Im trying to save some of the money for the coral and other equipment so I might go cheap on the skinning. Not bad for zero experience carpentry huh. well I owe it to my friends and a cold six pack to keep them motivated.

Alright, finally found some time today to work on the stand. I took out the middle braces top and bottom doing this created an extra 6.5 inches of space for the sump. I added two pieces of wood on the top sides so the tank doesn't slip off the stand. Should I add a thin piece of plywood on top or could I leave it open bottom? Thanks for your advice guys! I'm learning alot from reading everyone's post and advice.

that stand is beefy!!..in the future even if you predril a pilot?..take a bar of soap and run it along the threads of your lags..it'll make screwing them in alot easier..looking fantastic already though non the less!!!
