Inspired by Mr. Johnnyairtime , I decided to upgrade my sump/fuge ! I picked up this sweet RK2 bin from NickSDC and the upgrade began !!!

My plan was to drill a hole thru my wall behind the tank and re-route all the plumbing into the RK2 bin that would now reside in my " office " . Also , getting rid of the current 60 gallon sump/fuge that was under my tank . In order to do so , I had to break down my tank entirely , so I could pull the tank away from the wall to get the sump out .
Here is what I had

Here is what I ended up with

My next step was to mount my " backboard " That would hold my 80 watt UV , power strips/timers , temp controller , reactors , and whatever else I decide to add to the system later .

There is still some equipment to be installed and a little " cleaning up " to do , but you get the idea .

I then constructed a " basket " to hold my rock and macro algae out of simple white egg-create , the idea being to create some separation without making dividers like your traditional sump/refugiums .

And the with a little re-organization , I had this !

I still have to add my finishing touches , but wanted to show it off and maybe get some ideas or contructive criticism .
Let me know what you think !!!

Thanks ! I thought it was a great idea , it allowed me to still have good flow thru the refugium . The other idea was to put a small glass tank ( 10 gallon ? ) and pump water into it and let the water flow back out . With the egg-crate , I was not able to add a sand bed , but that's a project for the future !

Fish Freak...
I'm not sure the inspiration is positive, as the chaos starts to ensue.

I will say, your doing a great job... and getting-it-done, rather than "talking about" it.
A can do attitude, is becoming. And, a wallet drainer. :D Speaking of which, I think I owe ya a lunch!

This is what this hobby is all about... learning, and leaning on one another for support and ideas.
... so who had the idea to turn half our houses into "fish rooms"?! Was it you.... are you to blame?!

If I could have hid an RK2 bin in my closet... I'd be following your lead. NICE WORK!

Need some more zip ties? I've got buttloads!
And I've got some "toilet seats", or anchors you can have for those zip ties if needed.

PURE CRAZINESS!!!:bounce:

... plus your getting pretty handy with the photobucket account. AND, I see those Cokes ready for that go-go-juice momentum you feed me. ;)

When I go to someones house and look at their tanks and see what it is taking to keep the system looking healthy , I go home and try to re-create certain aspects of that system . While this hobby that WE ALL love is sure to " drain the wallet " , the inspiration must remain , or why be in it at all ??? I get a lot of support and Ideas from YOU , and I believe it's a good thing !

What were we doing in these rooms of ours that was more important anyways ? We must be a little crazy !!! HA ! Thanks for the kind words !
( I'll talk to you about zip-ties and toilet seats in the AM , and I'll bring you a nice cold coke !!! )

I think JAT and jamie are both NUCKIN FUTS! I mean that in the best way possible! It has been awesome to see your tanks Jamey. My wife would have killed me I think.

It was nice to meet you last night. I am sure I will stop by again some time. I need to get that media reactor from you sometime. Maybe on the 15th when my pocket book recovers from buying $700 worth of LED's
