just bought 9 gallon eheim tank

I just bought the eheim tank for my son. We want to set it up for a FW planted tank that will hold his betta fish and some plants. I also purchased some soil from fluval that is for planted tanks. So any thoughts on what else to get, thinking about getting a undergravel heater. Thanks in advance
