So it's been about 7 years since I broke down my tank to move home to SD from SF. I said I wouldn't invest in a tank until I bought a new home. That happened last year so my wife had no choice but to agree to it. Plus my 2 year old twins love visiting the LFS around SD so it was a no brained.

I only have one good location in the house so it somewhat limited my tank size. I ultimately settled on a 50 tall. I'm currently running it with a 20g sump, AquaC 120 and using a RKL as a controller. On to the pictures.

This is the setup with sandbed.

Rock work. Going minimalist.

Can't wait to stock it.

Nice job, that looks really clean. What kind of lights are you using, and what are you planning on keeping? Keep the updates coming, and welcome back!

Thanks, I originally wanted to run 2 Kessil A150W but decided to get a simple T5HO for the cycle. This way if I decided to go a different route I wouldn't be in for too much. I'm either going to move LED or add another T5 set up there. The tank is going to be mixed reef mostly softies and LPS.

My cousin Christel? Small world. I'd love to grab some frags once the tank is ready. Cycle not quite ready yet.

Added an ATO to the tank today. Wife found a cool little holder at Ross for $24.

I'm not using a float switch, although I intend to. Right now I'm using the RKL to run it 15 minutes a day and see tomorrow where that gets me and adjust from there.

Thanks Dave. Got the idea from a thread on RC.

Added LED strip from Fry's today as lunar.

So I felt compelled to move away from the minimalist movement and build a rock wall. I didn't think I was using enough of the height of my tank.

Didn't take long for me to change my mind. I settled on the 2 island format. This also gave me better use of the rock for future coral placement. Thoughts?

Currently running 4 bulb T5HO. Probably going to be LPS and softie dominated. I have that small acro frag in there and it's been doing fine. I think though with this setup I may need to go 6 bulb since my high point on the rock is midway through the tall tank.

Haven't updated this in a while but made some minor changes. I really wanted to take the stocking slow and now after almost 10 months I'm adding more of a bio load. I also added more LR into the mix as I was finding a lack of spaces to put frags into.

Current scaping under T5's:

I also got a goby pistol pair. This is one of the coolest things in the tank to watch. Thanks Jojo @GFW.

I also made the switch to LEDs. I picked up the Maxpect razor and so far after a week am really liking them. Really sleek. I'll upload a FTS once I fully acclimate the light. Right now it's really blue.
