Sand Question

Starting a new tank and I need some sand. Being that we live by the beach does anyone use beach sand, instead of store bought? I do think San Diego sand is a too fine but I grew up in HB and the sand there in much more coarse. I'm heading up there tomorrow and was thinking about just grabbing a few buckets to start my tank. Can this be done?

The sand here wont work. There are silicates in the sand rendering it useless to us. Sorry

It is also illegal to take it from the beach.

Definitely not a good idea, there are many great deals on here for sand. You would be better off with sand from an established tank. Not that dirty beach sand.
