I would just go with the 4 or 5 stage RODI unit from bulkreefsupply.com. They're reputable and finding additional parts would be a cinch. They also provide installation support and such. Also, parts of San Diego use chloramine, so you might have to get a special type of RODI which has extra charcoal to filter it out... I'm not positive on this but I was reading on the water district websites and East County for sure uses Chloramine and the SD water website that they use it as well (<-this one needs to be researched more).

These RO systems have a special output just for drinking as well as an output for the RO/DI water you want to put in your tank. It is worth the extra 30-100 for one of these. Most other RO systems people are talking about are just a standard RO unit without a drinking output. And yes the water tastes different comin out of the drinking output. Also remember these are usually a 1:3 ratio meaning you get 1 gal of clean water for every 3 gal that goes through the filter so you are wastin 2 gal for every gal you get that is filtered. Also no point in spending the extra cash for a 100gpd unit when a 30-50 gpd unit will probably do you just fine. 100 gal per day is alot of water.

I use the water general 6 stage 100gal per day that i got from ebay, works great, filters that come stock last me 1 year and they use standard size canisters so getting replacments at lfs is no problem. Worth its weight in gold.

Love my Spectrapure MaxCap RO/DI 90GPD.

Maxcap gets my vote, and marinedepot had a great sale on them not long ago.
Don't make the mistake of going for just cheap, it will cost you in the long run in cartridge replacement.(and not very far off in the long run)
Next on my list would be BRS

I also have culligan, with the ro unit under my sink for drinking. It is only RO water though, not DI. I would imagine the TDS level is probably a bit high to want to use in your tank.

i'm shopping around for one too, and everyone i spoke to, suggested SpectaPure refurbished one, because it's much cheaper, but still backed by the same warranty and support

Oooh, great link, that refurb'd unit is close to what it's going to cost me to change out my membrane and cartridges, maybe time for me to switch to spectrapure...
