Attention fish geeks....

I've had my DIY aquarium controller running my tank for almost a year now, but just got around to posting about it. Right now my blog just has photos and videos. I plan to add text with more detail about how I built it. But I thought I'd put out the URL now for you guys to check out since the videos explain a lot. I'll do my best to get back to you if you have any questions, but I may not be able to respond right away. Let me know what you think!

Make sure to check out my automatic fish feeder.. probably my favorite part of the setup.

Nice!!!

Any problems with heat output from those big 25A SSRs?

Thanks!

I couldn't help but notice your profile picture with a droid eating an apple. Another project I'm working on is a Facebook widget for Android. Check it out. It's free. https://market.android.com/details?id=rr.feep

Thanks,

Roger

No problems with the SSRs heating up. I think they've got some "heat sync"-like properties to them. There is a thick aluminum backing. Also I think heat is more of a problem when you're running high amps through them and/or switching quickly. Those SSRs are way overkill for just about everything I have hooked up to them except for maybe my chiller. But I got them from China on eBay very cheaply, so I figured I'd just have them all match and also allow for my amps to go up if I want to upgrade the system down the road.

Welcome to SD Reefs and nice little setup you have, funny you should mention the ebay items you have bought since I have also had some success with purchasing ebay things, mainly a skimmer that has been doing very well for only costing $40 bucks and is rated for up to 150g and also a couple of other things. Hope to see more pic's of your tank and more videos!

Thanks Toombs. Yeah, eBay is great. I'm always amazed how cheaply I can get stuff from China.. stuff for like $0.99 no shipping, and I'm wondering how that even pays to have it shipped over here. Always takes a few weeks, but it gets here.

When I get a chance I'm going to add some more text to my blog explaining what's in the photos, particularly regarding the controller.
