Seting Up my First Reef Tank. No Laughing!

ok after years of dreaming I am finally doing it. I have had my 60gal tank sitting in my house for atleast 6years empty and I am finally decided to resurrect it. Here is a pic of it so far. I am still changing and adding stuff. The rocks have changed a little.
I added more Tufa rock on the left side of the tank. Give it more of a wall look to it. Did I mention this was my first Aquascape.
No Laughing !! haha

60gal Standard
With a 403 fluval cannister & Bak Pak Dual Skimmer.
Also running my old power heads. Old 1100 Marineland and Rio1700. Been thinking about changing to some rotating kind.

Latest purchase was my Coralife 4x65 48" PC lights.

My Future planes of course would be to upgrade the powerheads and maybe get a sump tank. I already own a CPR overflow that would come in handy for that.

My first corals are Umbrella Mushroom Leather Coral and I think a Finger Leather Coral. Don't know for sure.
But they are both doing great!

1 Percula Clown.
1 Lawnmower Blenny
2 Mexican Turbo Snails
2 Scarlet Hermits.

What did you expect? The tanks only been running since March!

Ya, well with the new lights algae is finally starting up. *cheers*

Ask me in about 2 months how I feel about algae :)

I have some mixed rocks in there. All the tufa rock is from one of my friends and some other LR I got from another friend and then a couple of dried up peices I had from years ago. I mixed it up, and hope the whole thing gets seeded up.
You will all know when I start getting some of that cool purple algae. (corraline I think its called)
I will be screaming it on the forums haha.

Right now the rocks you see have purple algae from my friends tank.

See now this is why I love the San Diego Reef forum. Even the newbs are smart. If you read a title like this at other forums you would see a flowerpot coral in a mason jar. I was expecting worse with a title like this. You make me proud to welcome you to the forum.

Oh yeah....I think you have too much rock. Every coral you buy comes on a rock for the most part. You need room for corals.

Once I start getting more corals I might notice I have slightly to much rock. If that becomes a problem...... I might just have to setup another tank :)

I am glad you guys like it. I guess the tank passed the inspection.

I have to give thanks to SoCal-Rich for the all the LR he gave me. Plus for putting up with all the questions I threw at him. Without him, I think it would of been a flowerpot coral in a mason jar. hehe

Getting a little closer to looking like a reef tank.

I think I just lost my Umbrella Toadstool Leather. For some reason its not opening up anymore. Its tenticles began to look darker and shorter untill it didnt open up at all anymore.
R.I.P. My first coral and my first one to die. :'(

Trust me there will be many more. Luckily it wasnt too expensive of a coral. I think I am about to lose my 6" Derasa. But its my fault because I put something I shouldnt have in my tank and I was stubborn.
