im contemplating power washing and bleaching old filter socks, letting them dry and of course RO rinse... anyone do this?
I bleach mine every time I wash them. Rinse them with RODI and let them dry in the sun and you should be fine.
You can do either, I'm currently just high pressure washing mine and then air drying them no pre bleaching.

I throw mine in the washer no soap but i add bleach and then air dry it works for me. I have 6 filter socks and i replace it once a week or when its start overflowing.

I heard bleaching can cause phosphates. I'm not sure entirely if this is true but I've bleached and pressure washed! I use a .99cent homedepot nozzle now that works great!

I put mine through a rise cycle with a cap of bleach, dry in the sun and they're ready for use. Ive been doing it this way for over a year with no problems

I got 2 that i just down with a garden hose when there overflowing until it looks clean enough. Then squeeze out as much water as possible and store it next to the sump ready for the next change.
I see tri-city power washing their socks a couple times a week out back, so its probably not to hard on the sock.

Rinse mine out well in the shower.
Then soak in bleach.
Rinse multiple times in the sink.
Rinse in RODI
Put it back

Throw it in the washer without anything and then use it. If you are that worried about trace phosphates than use a phosphate binder solution or run resin. It is a great way to spend extra money on an already expensive hobby.

i use 1 capfull of bleach in the washing machine, then run it through the washer with nothing 2 times, but i have about 20 socks or so so that i dont waste all that water for just 1 and let it air dry
