I just removed some of these from my system, and those are 1month old;
(1) 36" 39W Giesemann Actinic+ ($14)

The following are my backups, and are no more than 4months old;

(2) 36" 39W Aquatic Life 10,000K ($8ea)

"how can you very"... I assume means, how can I verify? If so, I've owned the bulbs since new. I used to write on them with a sharpee when I replaced them. I know exactly how old, or new they are.
