I have been a member of this site for almost a year now (will be a member in June) and didn't even know there was a paid subscription until a few days ago! I happened to attempt to use an avatar and could not get it to work. I emailed a site moderator, whose brief reply simply stated I had to be a paid subscription member to use an avatar.
From there, it took me a while to navigate through the site and find the info/link to upgrade to a paid subscription. Put it out there, loud and bold on the homepage!
