If you plan on making an in tank overflow like I did pics of mine (http://www.sdreefs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=65135&page=2)
You will need a decent table saw, 80+ teeth saw blade, Router table, 1/4 straight router bit.
I bought a Diablo 84 tooth saw blade and it cost about $70. Expensive but well worth it. When you get to the stage to routing out the teeth, go very slow. Let the router do the work or else you will snap off teeth like I did.
It was my first time working with acrylic and I used this design here (http://www.glass-holes.com/Super-Nano-Con-Dientes-Overflow-Box-nanodientes.htm)
I made my box 5 1/4" wide and has 1/4"w x 1 1/4"h teeth.
The materials needed would be 1/4 acrylic @ 12" x 24". Most places sell it by the square foot, new.
