Does anyone have any sites for good prices on good MH ballasts? I'm thinking of upgrading my 50gal tank with some. Thanks!

do you want an IceCap ballast? Marine Depot.com and PremiumAquatics.com are both very good. Marine Depot pays for your CA sales tax and can get it to you in a couple of days.
They have other ballasts and parts as well.

OKay, sorry about that.. I'm thinking one 250watt HQI or two 150W HQI.

Still doesn't really answer the question.

If you want electronic, such as IceCap... MarineDepot has a great deal on the 250w HQI right now: $115.

If you want Magnetic (such as PFO)... check CustomAquatic or Blue Lagoon. I just picked up a 250w PFO and 24" Parallel Reflector from Blue Lagoon last week.... it's awesome.

More importantly than no flicker is that electronic are more energy effecient than magnetic tar ballasts but have a higher up front price. While shopping you also want to have in mind what type/color bulb you like becuase every ballast runs only certain bulbs and some bulbs can only be run by a single ballast. Your best bet to understanding all this is to do some research and this is a good thread to start with:

Have fun!!!

Hah, yeah... two links to that thread... I'd definitely start there.

Perhaps you should be thinking more about what you want to buy, before you start worrying about where to buy it.

More specifically: what is it you want to keep?

ie: some of my mushrooms don't like my new 250w MH. Too much light. Some love it.

What you want to keep determines the amount/type of lights you need to buy.
