Does anyone know what dKH of San Diego tap water. My Salifert test kits shows 10.4 dKH. I just do not think that is correct, sounds too high.

Also if anyone knows what our GH is please let me know. I do not have a test kit for that.

Thanks

Actually that dkH sounds a little low.

the San Diego water report is here, but it is the 2003 issue:

http://www.sandiego.gov/water/quality/consumer_confidence03.pdf

The general hardness tends to be around 200-250 if I remember.
That is in ppm. To convert, use dGH x 17.9 to get ppm.
I don't think you can really convert between dKH or dGH, they are completely different terms. Many people just leave them equal when doing the ppm conversions. I assume you are working on a freshwater tank. If saltwater, don't use general hardness, always stick with dKH (alkalinity).

Thanks.

I will look at the pdf. I wanted to know about dKH for my saltwater tank and GH for my FW planted tank. I just never bothered to buy a GH test kit as I never heard anyone ever complaining about SD water being too hard or too soft. And my plants are doing great.
