I picked up a Used Odeyssea 4XPC fixture a while back. It never worked right and I was contemplating getting new ballast or tossing it. Ran across a few DIY LED threads and decided what the heck.

Started by gutting out the original... it was different than I thought as it had a separate compartment for the Ballasts. In one way nice but limited size for LED Drivers. Note the cutoff setions to reduce from 24" fixture to 20".

Basically I salvaged encaps and housing. Fans were replaced by 10DB units I found.

heatsink is 5 X 17. Purchased a diablo metal blade to cut heatsink for clearances. Cut back a few fins and later cut out the rear three for wire runs.

Soldered layout on board matched to heatsink 12 cool whites and 12 royal blues

Lights attached using thermal epoxy. Heatsink attached to housing using original T-tracs. Modified a few #8 screws to work in trac. You can see here where last three fins were removed

Power housing attached. Used Sunpark 120-27000 Divers that use 120V eliminating need for additional power supply. Will use meanwell in future to allow dimming feature.

Leads attached and endcaps on.... Lights on... WOW! this is one bright fixture now...

Just need to fix legs where previous owner cut tabs off. then will mount on tank.. Tired for now... tank test later ;)

Awesome build larry! Could you give us specs on components, known or used suppliers and cost please. I just may need to make one, or 5 of these

Wow Larry this looks great! I'm still waiting on my drivers. You've inspired me, I don't think I can wait for a deal on the Meanwells and will just have to pay a premium for them or use something else.

Get t over a tank yet?

I purchased the lights from
http://www.sdreefs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67050

The drivers I bought direct from sunpark. picked em up on a trip from the wholesalers. there are lots of options for drivers, I wanted ones that were 120v powered.

Never mind, "Sunpark 120-27000".

Please tell me if I am correct, but this driver only allows you to put 6 LEDS right?

Depends on voltage and wattage of LEDS.

In this case I am using 6 per driver
