Ok.... I am setting up a 150g FOWLR tank and am searching for the right size pump for it. I spoke with AW today and they said I want the tank to turn over 5 times in an hour and then recommended an $200 in-line pump. Is this accurate? If it is, please tell me someone out there is selling one as $$$ is scarce.

$200 seems to be a lot for a 750gph pump!
I use a sedra that cost me $100.

ditto. Good price, good pump. Can't beat it. I'm getting one for my next prop tank.

i would have to agree with the recomendations on the external pump. they will generally put out alot more flow for the amount of power they use and also they wont transfer much heat to the tank. the reeflo mentioned above is indeed a good pump, as are most of if not all the sequence pumps. on another note i would consider 5x of turnover per hour to be on the low side of what you would want. good flow is vital for most saltwater tanks especially reefs. i would probably shoot for 10x of turnover at the least and more if possible.

Good luck

Hey trust us on this one. Pay the extra cash and pick up a reefflo dart. Should be plenty of water flo, You might have to back it off a little but that is easy to do. Better to be able to adjust the flow to what you want than not have enough. If that is not enough it will be Quiet, I like quiet pumps so Buy it :)

Description: ReefFlo DART by Sequence Low Head Pressure,600-3200GPH 1/8 HP, Max Watts 160 Low Speed Motor (1725 RPM) Quiet Operation, Low Heat Transfer Heavy Duty Silicon Carbide Saltwater Seal Translucent PVC Housing for Easy Troubleshooting 3 year Warrenty Cost Effective Dimensions: 7 inches long by 6.57 inches wide by 11 inches long

Reasons to buy
Quiet (Low RPM...So it does not Humm like the high RPM PUMPS)
More than enough power
low wattage
good quality
Does not heat water

If you can help it, don't run that flow thru the sump. That way you can have a slower flow past your protein skimmer (and possibly refugium) and still have lots of water movement.

Closed loops RAWK!

My sump pump is maybe 600gph, the CL is a MAK4. Combined, there's lots of water moving in my tank.

What's the deal with the GenX pumps? AW tried to sell me one and I have seen a couple people on this site with them. Are they a good pump?

If you like noise, I would call them generation loud pumps. Just my opinion.

Also they are sending me a new seal for that ampmaster 2100 pump. Are you interested?
