That's how I've cleaned mine in the past with no ill effects so far.

How often should I clean my pump? I have a 3300 Via aqua.

I've always just pulled the inlet cap off and then pulled the impeller out and used a tooth brush to clean out the cavity and misc parts.

Ok so are you dosing Calcium Hydroxide? If so I would say every six months should do the trick and I would use Vinegar for cleanings.

It's much more cost effective to buy Muriatic acid (poo acid, HCL), and dilute it down. That way, you can also make a stronger solution for cleaning. Just be sure to do it outside, or in PLENTY of ventilation if you use a stronger mixture. a few ounces of acid with a gallon of water is more powerful than a gallon of vinegar. I use it to clean EVERYTHING. Works great!
