So I was looking in my fuge today and noticed 3 tiny (as in 1/8" diameter), light brown... jellyfish? They just sit at the surface, cruising around, pulsing like crazy with what looks to be about 8-10 little arms.

Any idea what these guys could be? I'd take a pic but simply don't have the equipment to capture something that small.

Are you getting scripps water or making your own? Depending on the filtration that the scripps goes through, it may have been possible to get some when they were in the plankton stage. Frankly though, I think that Scripps filters it a bit better than that though.

Most jellys wont survive in a standard tank. They need rounded tanks with constant water movement and can be very fickle.

I would guess its probably a hyrdoid of some sort rather than a Jelly.

I thought hydriods were pretty much the same thing

Hydroids and Jellys are completely different. When dissecting them there are different anatomical points to look for as well as major size differences. Most Hyrdoids would be attached unless in the free swimming stage.

Here is a link with a somewhat cursory explanation of the differences. http://www.oceaninn.com/guides/cnidarians.htm

I'll do my best to take some pics, but as I said they're so freaking small, and I lack the macro lense to get a clear shot.

We'll see what I can do tommorow though.

Little swimming hydroid things are relatively common fuge critters, nothing to be too concerned about. They come in on LR (in one growth stage or another) and rarely cause problems. We usually don't see em in reef tanks cause they get eaten by fish or chopped up by pumps.
