I just set up my tank to start cycling, it ran for a couple days kind of loud, I heard it might get quieter with a week so I left to LA for the weekend like I do every weekend, I let some friends stay at my place last night and I got a call at 3am saying "the carpet is wet and the tank is empty" :curse::hideeyes::cry::confused2:

I am not concerned with how or why, anyone know a good carpet guy? what should I do so that I don't smell saltwater forever?

Just use a good carpet cleaner. Mold won't grow in the carpet because of the salt. The one at the super market will be fine. It has happened to me too.

+1, clean the carpet good and keep lots of air flowing through, don't allow dampness to linger anywhere.

idk your exact setup, but the return might of shut off and then then a siphon started from your display through your pump and then overflowed the sump..
