I have a Teardrop Maxima and a Crocea about 18-20" below the surface in a 36" long 75T tank and both are doing great. Currently I'm running 2x175W MH 10000K XM bulbs w/ VHO Actinic as well. However, the 10000K XM bulbs are just too yellow for my taste.

I tried out a 12000K sunburst and loved the color but damn are they expensive. I was thinking of trying the 14000K Coralvue's instead as MParkis practically gives them away.

My question is do you all think the clams will get enough light at that depth with the decreased PAR of a 14000K bulb? I'd really hate to have to move them up in the tank as they're happy where they are...

Clams enjoy 10K's the best, PLUS that Crocea needs a ton of light and 175's may be cuttin' it close if you lower your par. I'm not saying it WILL be a problem, but just keep an eye on the clam for color. His mantle will start to brown up a bit if the lights aren't enough.

What you REALLY need to do is wait for Barry to chime in. . . he's know for shizzle.

i've had my crocea under 250 MH coralvue 14k from mparkis, and he's been doing fine at a depth of 20" for the past 2 1/2 months. his mantle is fully strectched out, and color is just as vibrant as when i got him.

you can even check out barry's website, i believe there is a clam specific forum there for questions like this.

Your light will be ok but the more light the better. The clam will color up and show more intense colors with brighter lights. We use 250, 10K HQI and our tanks are 12" deep.

Hope this help.

Thanks for the info! I think I'll be sticking with 10000K for now.
