I have read many articles on vodka dosing to reduce PO4 and NO3, but to scared on trying them. This being said I needed to reduce my PO4 for sure, so I went to a LFS and was going to buy a phosban reactor. While talking it over with the employee he turned me to reef biofuel (RBF) and microbacter 7 (MB7). The claim is, this product should bring both NO3 and PO4 to extremely low to undetectable. I have been using this for a week and have seen drastic improvements... has anyone else used this product and what experiences did you have?
Thanks

Starting PO4=0.25 - 0.5 (crazy high) I will test again later this week.

I have been using 2 ml/day of bio fuel so far
Todays tests:
pH: 8.4-8.6
NO3: 0
NO2: 0
PO4: 0.25
Ca: 450
No green slime on front glass, but still have minor cyano in places. Macro algae in fuge is going strong.

i use MB7. it gave me crystal clear water (until i stopped using it from sheer laziness/lack of time) and definitely reduce my nutrient levels.

I think that MB7 is a good continual source of bacteria for the system. I was feed my 24 gallons like it was a 200 gal and the MB7 kept my po4 level at undetectable with the API test kit!

Have not use the reef bio fuel but my guess is that is is just a finetuned carbon source for the bacteria in MB7. Different bacteria will use different carbon sources more readily, therefore itmight be useful to use the reefbiofuel and not vodka dosing.

Pet kingdom also caries the Brightwell products too!

How is the bio-fuel working for you?

are you dosing just bio-fuel, or bio-fuel and MB-7?

I was using both; however, the bio fuel dropped my Ph and Alk too low. So I stopped for a bit and have decreased my biofuel usage & stopped the MB7. My tank has grown tremendously since starting.

I have been reading some articles about using vodka along with MB7. Is anybody doing this? If so, do you stop running GFO and Carbon?
