Just found out tonight, came home to find one of my mandrins on top of my center brace across my tank.... I couldn't tell if it was the male or female, I'll have to wait till morning when the lights come on.... although I use to see the female at night, so it could of been her, oh well off to the toilet funeral..... RIP

I too have seen the magic jumping act of these fish, luckily, I found mine in time to rescue him and return him to the tank. I've read/heard that gobies and blennies often exhibit the same activity. Also, I know many people flush their dead specimens down the toilet, and I must strongly advise against this. Often times, these animals end up causing problems off our coasts because they may release new diseases and toxins that fish in this region arent used to and as a result they can't fight them off. Just a little side note, at first I was skeptical too, but its so easy to either throw them in the trash or bury them in the back yard so why take a chance.... :)

I have watched the mandarins jumping from tank to tank over at AW. I was scared to put one in my tank but no umping yet.

Turns out it was the male.... he was more blue than the female, but it wasn't hard to locate a male mandrin, so after I jump proof my tank i'll look for another one....

The males have a large spike fin, the females have a smaller one..
