I've been putting a box fan over my sump and turned off the my heater. My house gets really hot too. Its been keeping the temp at about 80 - 82 degrees. You might wanna try it.

crap. this weather sucks. this is my first summer with my aquarium, what will happen if it heats up too much? right now my tank gets 80-82, im betting it reaches 84 in the afternoon when im not home.

One thing I used to do before I bought a chiller was to freeze some bottled water (a few at a time) inside the container with the cap on. I would then just throw them into the sump. Didn't have to worry about salinity changes when it melted due to the fact that the water melted inside of the plastic bottle. I bought my chiller once I got tired of having to freeze the bottles all the time. Plus, the bottles floating in the sump bothered me a bit. Just a picky aesthetic thing....

My garage was over 100 today, and a big arse fan slapped on the side kept it under 80

Just fyi

Fans are sure cheaper than a chiller.....

I got one of those 6" clip on fan from Target for like 7 bucks. Blowing directly on the sump the temp in my tank never gets above 81.5 or so. Cheap and effective...course the RO is working overtime keeping up with the extra evaporation.

crank on the AC IS MY PLAN...I had a chller and my electric bill was huge. I had a drop in. I heard the inlines are much much better.

Just use the poor man's chiller - ice cubes :)

Tried the A/C but either our condenser is broken, or the freon is out. . . so it's out. I used a large fan and it went from 82 to 81 and stayed there. Whew!
