My starfish is "receding" and I don't know why or what I should do. It is a red fromia starfish, it is still moving around but it just looks like its skin is falling off around the tips of the arms. I have another red fromia in the tank as well and that one is looking fine. Any idea what is going on??

it's eating itself.

Starfish are hyper sensitive to salinity flucuation. They have ducts in their rays that circulate water through and change in salinity can damage these ducts which can cause recesion of tissue. Also like stated earlier when not properly nourished they will "eat" themselves. Many starfish feed on a type of micro film algae which from my understanding dosent proliferate in our aquariums as many other algae do. :2cents:
(sorry, I didn't see that you had two, in this case most likely the issue is lack of nutrition.)
