I guess that leaves us nano-keepers out. i would like some, but I think my 20L would look a little creepy crawling with 100 hermits. Not to mention that most of them would die of starvation.

If any of you buying 100 want to sell 10-20, PM me.

farrington300
05-12-2005, 02:59 PM
I would be in for 50. Should be around $14.5. LMK. Also ask this guy what he is smoking. shipping 500 hermits next day air saver should not cost more than 45 bucks (unless he packs a lot of water) Lastly ups 2day air from FL should be just about 30 (according to the shipping calculator at my work). I think a few more would die but that would cut down on the cost, maybe the seller would go for that. just a thought.

I am in for 10. Just get 5-7 more people that want 20 or less and we are in business.

Also not all 500 shipped will arrive alive. So that will have to be factored in also.

Only reason I said a 100 is because it would kinda be a pain to get 30 different people when you could just get five.

Need two more people who want a 100.

PK, I'll join up with you and get a couple dozen or so. . . I mean, I just don't need 100 for my 50 gal. . .

I was going to buy this auction straight up and distrube them out. The shipping is a bit much, but that's the way live stuff goes. The price is still pretty good for 500.

I was hoping one person can pick-up 100 from you and then people with smaller orders can get 10-20(or whatever) from him.

Anyone wants 10-20 hermits, please pick them up from us (myself, jharr or dakota, bgoode). It should be about $0.30/piece.

So shout out if you want less than 100.

Here's the tally by my reckoning:
Trick - 100
LuisT - 100
Chap - 100
farring - 50
jharr - 10
pk-sd - 10
Dakota - 25
bgoode - 10
95cam - 10

that brings it to 415 accounted for. If those I put down for 10 take 20 then it is 455.

Anyone else in?

farrington300
05-13-2005, 09:58 AM
Hey guys if need be I will buy 100 to make the deal go through (then i will sell off the ones i dont need, this will make it easier on the person who does the buy, and will allow others to get smaller amounts). Its only 29 and change for 100. keep in mind that 100 hermits at AW is over 100 bucks, point is, this is a good deal, lets not let it pass. LMK

edit: maybe if we do 2 orders (1000) he will lower shipping?

suver569
05-14-2005, 05:56 AM
Oh heh, been busy. I can distribute, no problem. Let me check it out and get it all setup.

Only thing I ask, who ever can paypal in advance, let me know. This will really help out with the wife factor... If she see's another 100, 150, 200 dollar payment go out to "that damn fish tank", she'll freak.

At the very least, I have about 50 bucks already on my paypal account, so if a few people could pay in advance, it'll help out alot.

Lemme know, and I'll contact the guy and get it setup. I'll see if I can get a larger order, maybe get them a bit cheaper. I've actually been in contact with this guy already.

suver569
05-14-2005, 06:19 AM
Ok, found them a bit cheaper, I think I'm going to get 1000, but I
Need to get a few more accounted for.

Those that want 100, $23 bucks
Those that want 50, $11.50...

If you just want a few, that's cool too. 4 for $1

I'm going to try and contact him to find out what size they are. Make sure they're not the micro, micro ones. Those are tiny. I also need to get a tank setup to hold all of these suckers.

Trickman2
05-14-2005, 07:27 AM
I am in for 100. Tell me when and paypal account

suver569
05-14-2005, 08:00 AM
Okie, I have 2 paypal accounts setup. I will pm everyone that has replied here with info.
I can take regular paypal payments, and direct credit card payments. If you HAVE to use a credit card payment, it charges me 3% of whatever you send for the transaction, so the less of those, the better :p

PM'n everyone here. If I miss you, send me a PM. If anyone else wants in, PM me and I'll get you accounted for.

The crabs will be in late next week. Thursday or so. I work during the morning/afternoon, so all pickups would have to be after 3:30, or we can meet up on the weekend.

I can make arrangements to meet out at OG, but the fewer the better. I'm always out running around, but my wife gets on my case if I make special trips out to drop off stuff for "that damn fish tank" :D

Anyways, PM'n everyone now.

Ok, gonna hold off on any more reserving now. Whatever is left over, I will post the day they arrive. Those that have already paid obviously have there's reserved. If I dont hear from ya within a couple days, I'll have to find them homes. I can and will store them if you contact me, as long as it's not hundreds. Dont think my tank can hold that many for very long

Oh, and those that I may have not contacted already about paying via paypal...If you want, I will take payment before hand via paypal. PM me for the info. Otherwise, cash in hand or personal checks (as long as they clear ya bums!)

Hey everyone, there is a slight problem. I"m going to PM everyone that has not already picked up, and that have not paid.

First thing, I was shorted about 200

Second thing, about another 100 arrived dead.

Those that have already paid, and those that I"m meeting tonight, we're still on.

Chap, Trickman, luistwentyone, M_dez - I will PM you guys with more info.

suver569
05-20-2005, 06:18 PM
Ok, the damage is this.

275 dead, and 225 shorted. I'm getting a hold of the distributor now and i'm going to see what can be done.

Reefkeeper
05-20-2005, 11:28 PM
That is horrible. How were they shipped? Any heat or cold packs included in the packing?

For longer shipments you include a heat or cold pack depending on the temperatures they are going to encounter. For example, if its in a cargo hold of a plane that isnt pressurized or temperature controlled, the temperature is going to be absolutely frigid. Even if the plane touched down in Texas or something, the animals would have been in extreme cold temperatures for at least 2 hrs at a time. The styrofoam containers add some insulation, but its not enough on its own. (I dont think they would ship the animals in an unpressurized area as it would likely kill them, but you never know.)

In my experience, with most fish shipments they typically will make sure that its being sent in a pressurized and temperature controlled area of the plane. On top of that, some better sellers will still put a chemical heat pack in the container with the animals. (Its in a seperate bag, sometimes filled with water so that it will radiate heat. The styrofoam acts as insulation, trapping the heat and keeping all the animals up to their normal temperatures. ) In the summer or if the animals will be exposed to large amounts of heat, they will sometimes pack a small amount of chemical ice/ real ice in a similar way. Thus, trying to cool down the container a bit. There are specific quidelines for amounts of heat packs/ice to include so as to not freeze/cook the animals.

Where in Gainesville is this person located? I am curious because I lived there for a while and used to know the entire area like the back of my hand.

suver569
05-21-2005, 05:10 AM
They were shipped in an insulated foam box, like all fish shipments.

The problem: 1000 hermits in 1 bag

I was pretty shocked to see them all in one bag first off. I frantically got them into water, which as soon as I did, they immediately scrambled. They were obviously stressed.

There was no heat or cold pack, which shouldnt have been a big problem, as it was warm yesterday, but not like it's going to be today.

I'm still waiting to hear back from him. They do offer guarantee arrival, so I dont think it will much of a problem. The missing crabs is another story. That's just lack of quality control.

Reefkeeper
05-21-2005, 06:34 PM
The problem with the temperature is when the animals are on the plane, not the ground. Its much cheaper to have areas of the plane not pressurized/heated then to heat/pressurize the entire thing. For example, they have a seperate area of the cargo hold for putting dogs/cats that are checked. They arent put in with general cargo as they would most probably die.
