Where is a good place to get wood for the outer layer for the stand I am currently building.

What kind of wood are you looking for? Plywood, or veneer type of wood?

for hardwoods, there is place off the 78 in san marcos. Lane Stanton Vance. I know a few cabinet makers/furniture makers, and they get a lot of their stuff there. You can comb through their stock to find the pieces you really want.

for simple dimensional stuff, HD actually isn't that bad, but you have to look over each piece carefully. a lot of the pieces can get pretty dented and marked up.

Agree, LSV is great for lumber.
For special veneers I go to cut and dried hardwood in solana beach, but that stuff is$$$.
Home depot has nice sheets of birch and oak as well.

Lane Stanton is the best. Dixieline would be my second choice. I have had bad quality's lumber from HD. Just my :2cents:

I agree with Russ. Frost is the best. LSV has some good stuff, but I find if you are looking for more obscure wood species, or even wanted to consider a formica instead, Frost has what you are looking for.
