Hey, got this in my google reader this morning:

http://www.reefbuilders.com/2009/04/18/digital-aquatics-promotional-video-top/

After watching this new promotional video from Digital Aquatics (http://www.digitalaquatics.com/) we’re not sure if we’re going to see a movie about a shaky deep sea space or if Digital Aquatics is promoting it’s highly expandable aquarium controller. We’ve watched some zany epileptic seizure-inducung Japanese programs in our day but this video made us far more dizzy. You know we love you DA, we’re just saying that this video might have been made using a little too much red bull. For a more toned down look at the Digital Aquatics product line see this video (http://www.vimeo.com/3951897) by Vimeo user Minh. It’s anyone’s guess as to whether or not future ReefKeeper controllers will speak to you with that robotic female voice.

Don't shoot the messenger! :D

The article(more of a blurp I guess) has the tone of someone who has had a bad day and a "those darn kids and their technology and internets!" or a "I feel like being a douche right now attitude" or a "back in my day we would just stick our finger in the water to check water temperatures. Then lick it to find the salinity."

I was surprised at how good Minh's videos were when I first saw them. Very very professional. The guy/girl is entitled to his own opinion, but man we should really do something to prevent people from spewing it out on the "internets".

Maybe Im not reading it right, but it sunds to me like the one they dont like is the video Digital Aquatics is using, but prefer the one from Minh. Unless Minh also did the one Digital Aquatics is using.

I totally agree, I mean he/she are entitled to their own opinion.

I was at MAX with Minh and we walked around and checked out some of the other vendors. Let me tell you, their promotional videos came no where near Minh's videos. I mean if this writer is into lame and boring editing or people that don't put hard work in their product the more power to him/her.

I read that the same way, although I wondered if Minh did both of them...

I signed on to the board just to set the record straight before anyone gets the wrong idea or gets their feelings hurt. I am 27 and I am probably more of a techie than all of you combined, no offense. I am not criticizing the technical skill of the video Minh made, clearly he knows how to do a little sumthin with his video programs.

It doesnt change the fact that the effects of the video are a little over the top unless you're selling an RPG video game or an apocalyptic movie starring your governator.

MInh it's a great video so don't sweat my post. I hope we can get a hold of you in the future so you can do a Reef Builders promo video too. :bat:

I thought they were good videos.

Thx for signing in to show us your ego, but I question your honesty Mr. Techie.

Mihn you rock! And don't listen to that guy.

Are you doing these for fun or are you working with them?

LOL!

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, sometimes criticism is good right?
I'm sure Minh is laughing about it. As for an RPG game, I think it's more like a LOTR trailer.

 What an amusing thread!

Thanks for the feedback (positive and negative) everyone, I appreciate it wholeheartedly. To clear of any confusion, I made both videos per the client's specifications :)

No worries mate, thanks for the publicity! As they say in the 'biz, any publicity is good publicity ::D The whole point of these promo videos from a marketing standpoint is to get you guys talking about the product and obviously, it has accomplished that task. So thanks again!

Sure thing bud, I'll work for the publicity alone

If so, then it was the same guy I met at RAP last year - he was a pompous ass then as well.

I think it's unfair to make such deep judgments about someone that you may have spoken to only once, for a few minutes, in such a hectic setting as a trade show.

I registered on this forum just to make sure that no one gets bent out of shape about my post and all you can think to do is take cheap shots. Real smooth Russ.

Minh, your videos are great, seriously. I like your Diogorgia vids too. I'll be keeping an eye on your vimeo account.

I think it's unfair to make such deep judgments about someone that you may have spoken to only once, for a few minutes, in such a hectic setting as a trade show.

That "few minutes" gave me a much greater basis to formulate an initial impression - directly, in person - than your "I am 27 and I am probably more of a techie than all of you combined" warranted on your first post here. We have biochemists, MDs, supremely talented 3D graphic artists, pro photographers, the owner of a high-end AV service, the owner of a marketing company, a nationally-recognized & published IT consultant, as well as numerous IT/technical types... programmers, sysadmins, etc.; there is plenty of 'techiness' here of all types! Your statement can only be described as inflammatory. A bit of advice from someone who passed 27yo a long time ago: Phrases like "no offense" and "don't take this the wrong way" most often serve to emphasize, not negate, the negative statement they accompany.

<sigh>

Jake thanks for signing up and stating your views. I started this thread to show that Minh got a mention on another site, since he's "one of ours".

Aside from that, while RussM is right about the very broad range of folks on this board, we don't need it to get out hand and turn into a flame war.

So at any rate, good job Minh on your work; glad you got some publicity from it!

You are correct, J., and I apologize for further derailing the thread. Personally, I rather like the vids... well done Minh!

I think minh did a great job. Of course to each his own on the opinions of the style. Minh has a very different style artistically from me, but I can still give credit where credit is due for a good job.

From a completely neutral point of view, I think the videos were quality, not a huge fan of the camera jilting technique in the video presented but everything else is great...most importantly the client liked it.

And I think that Jake's blog is there to incite comments and discussions like this. Generally I would say that my opinion of him hovers along the same lines of so many people I've spoken too...but sometimes when you're in the public eye, you have to have a...lets just say... a personality that makes an impression ... or you're forgettable.
