Looks like a nudibrach of some kind. Not sure if it's reefsafe or not. You probably want to ask for an I.D. on reefcentral under Dr. Ron's forum. HTH/ -Mel:D

I am 100 percent sure that it is a highly toxic soft coral eating nudibranch. Do not touch it with your fingers or you have the chance of being dead. I am extremely serious. Take it out as quick as possible and be careful.

Many thanks Acoustic for your quick response. We (sparkie's and I) really didn't want to touch it if we didn't have to. Given the toxicity of the criter, we're *VERY* thankful for the heads up. Any suggestions on removal? Turkey baster? And what should we do after we remove it? Down the sink? Microwave? Freezer? :) Is there anyone that would want it? I know its bad/evil but we'd rather not kill what we don't absolutely have to. Also, do you know of any way we could determine the real name so we can alert the store we got it from? We're obviously pretty new to this stuff, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!

Berghia verrucicornis which feed on anemones (aptasia).

They are considered reef safe and useful according to Sprung. They are tank raised in some cases and made available for Aptasia elimination.

PS they can't inflict a sting stronger than the food they eat and are not considered hazardous to people.

MikeN,

If it is one of the more toxic slugs, they concentrate the toxin in their system as a defense mechanism, so they can be much worse than touching a zoo or what have you.

Really I think only the palytoxin is the one to worry about.
