Not sure what is going on, but these orange palys have slowly started dying :

You'll notice, they seem to be dying in a line, and what is left in their place is something that looks like super glue with sand poured on top of it.

Last night I did a freshwater Iodine dip. It doesn't appear to have helped.

Have not seen any white spots or carnivorous snails on them. When I check on them at night, the only thing I see is amphipods crawling on 'em.

Please Help.

Try a search for zoa-pox. Furan-2 to treat it.

Don't think it's an irritant, polyps are disappearing at a rate of like 1 per night.

Considered zoa-pox, but I'm just not seeing those symptoms...maybe I can get a pic of them closed to show the base.

I have heard of zoa fungi. Anyone think that could be a possibility?

Here is a pic of them closed up, notice the latest victim at the top of the rock.

BTW, this rock was at one time completely covered with polyps.

Is that white line area some type of sponge? If so maybe its pissing them off.

first thought is fungus. does that stuff look like a translucent film? hard to tell from the pic. on the pic it does look like a sponge, and i've had a sponge take over and smother a zoa colony before.

Do you think a sponge could grow and kill the zoas so quickly? It does look like a translucent film. If it is a sponge, how could I get rid of it?

I've just checked and saw two other places in my tank where something very similar to the aforementioned sponge/thing are growing (they are on random pieces of LR-not near other coral).

i would probably try to scrub it off. a kalk paste might kill it, but you risk killing the zoa's as well.

Well, I got my trusty tweezers and yanked the thing off. It all came off in one piece. Time will tell if it comes back.
