Sudden Raise In Nitrate?

Anybody know what would cause a sudden increase in Nitrate? I did start using a micron sock, would that have anything to do with it? My nitrates went from <5 >10 in a week? My tank has been established for 2 years.

Had any deaths recently? As long as you change out your sock once a week that shouldn't make your Nitrates rise.
