what good is a pre-skimmer box?

It does the same that an overflow does, it pulls water only from the surface of the water instead of the middle of it. It makes the skimming more effective and removes the film from the top.

Not to high jack this thread... but I also have a CPR bakpak pre-skimmer box. Used probably for 2 weeks. Practically new. $10 also. Let me know if anyone is interested.

Is this the newer box that will fit a Maxijet-1200 powerhead? If so, I'll take it.
